The City of Long Beach has contacted Better Housing for Long Beach and our legal team letting us know they intend to repeal the tenant relocation ordinance – the one that is the subject of our lawsuit.   They included a link of a published article regarding their intention to repeal the tenant relocation ordinance.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, all eight council members voted to repeal the Tenant Relocation ordinance also known as rent control.
On December 5, 2019, our attorney received a letter from the Principal Deputy City Attorney of Long Beach asking Better Housing for Long Beach and Joani Weir to dismiss the case against the City of Long Beach. They want to be removed from our lawsuit as soon as possible.  Our lawsuit included the City of Long Beach AND Governor Gavin Newsom.

This is a wonderful gift for housing providers and people who work in the Real Estate industry as well as renters in Long Beach.  Less regulation means more housing!

December 9, 2019 was the final vote to make sure this ordinance was fully repealed.  We are very excited for this outcome and know it is important for housing providers and tenants to celebrate this decision.  This repeal gave us all hope during this holiday season. However, we are not out of the woods yet. We need Governor Gavin Newsom to follow the lead of Long Beach and repeal statewide rent control.

Join the Fight!

We would like to encourage every organization in California that is negatively impacted by statewide rent control and the relocation fees to join our lawsuit now!  This unconstitutional ordinance that the Governor of California has passed is bad for housing providers AND renters.

Remember, every person who joins together and fights can make a difference.  Never give up hope as miracles can happen and they often do.

Thank You and Save the Date

A special thank you to all who donated to fight with us and supported this lawsuit.  Without your financial support, this would not have been possible. Please continue to donate to Better Housing for Long Beach so we can keep fighting this illegal action by Governor Gavin Newsome all the way to the Supreme Court.  Mr. Newsom is attempting to dismiss our case but we will see him in court on February 10, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. in Los Angeles.
